Traditional ways of SISR & challenges

When increasing the dimensions of an image, the extra pixels need to be interpolated somehow. Basic image processing techniques do not give good results as they do not take the surroundings in context while scaling up.

Examples:

• Nearest Neighbor: Spread out the pixels and copy the closest pixels, which looks like low resolution image with larger pixels.
• Bilinear Interpolation: Average neighboring pixels.

This is also time consuming.
